The report on the summer school at CNS, University of Tokyo
By Le-Anh Nguyen, from Vietnam.
The 17th CNS International Summer School is taken place on August 22nd to 28th, 2018 at Nishina-hall of RIBF. Because of the relationship between my supervisor Dao Tien Khoa and RIKEN, I had a memorable course during 7 days in Japan.
Firstly, I was very excited to the first abroad trip in my life. When the flight was landing at Haneda airport, I saw a beautiful and modern country with a lot of building, apartment and mall spreading whole rising land. It took about one hour to check-in at Super Hotel in Saitama. The receptionists were always friendly with a warm welcome for foreigner like me. To the next day, I and my roommate prepared something to go to the CNS. Fortunately, with the help and preparation from emails of Dr. Nobu Imai and Dr. Nagahama, it was quite easy to find the way to the CNS.
To start with course, Prof. Shimoura had a short welcoming talk on the introduction of CNS Summer School. Next, in the first lecture, Prof. Butler from University of Liverpool presented on the nuclear structure studies with RIB 1. In fact, I was really interested in the state-of-the-art facilities in Western countries. In the next lecture, Prof. Akiba talked on high energy heavy ion collision. This lecture helps me understand more QCD which is the attractive subject for not only theoretical physicists but also experimentalists. After the morning session, we had lunch at the cafeteria of RIKEN. Beginning the afternoon lectures, the nuclear structure ab-initio theory was presented by Dr. Takashi. This lecture was helpful for studying nuclear structure based on ab-initio methods. Then, Dr. Mengoni from Italy taught us about the experimental and theoretical nuclear astrophysics. To be honest, I really like the teaching style of him when he always wants us understand more about nuclear astrophysics. He provided the knowledge of universe with Big Bang, stellar nucleosynthesis or age of universe. On the next days, I met Prof. Kimura from Hokkaido with lectures on nuclear structure theory, especially, the Hoyle states of Carbon 12. When I discuss with him, I realize that he is very funny and friendly. Obviously, I only want to say thank to Prof. Kimura and Dr. Mengoni with questions on my presentation on radiative capture reactions. Lastly, Prof. Suda presented on the electron scattering which is the most important experiment to discover nuclear structures.
Apart from it, there were many interesting oral and poster reports of PhD students. Fortunately, I had a chance to talk to some international friends such as Long-hui Ru from China who I met in dinner welcome party, Yamada from Japan whose study I was interested in the poster session and Midori Miwa from Japan who is a beautiful girl in the class. Absolutely, we still keep in touch by emails and messengers on social networks.
Finally, I think that the CNSSS18 is an essential course for young scientists like me because it not only provides me good knowledge but also helps me feel more confident on scientific way.
Thank you for everything! See the CNS Summer School another day!
