Dear Sirs,
My name is
Nguyễn Lê Anh. I am 21 years old and have now been studying at Physics Faculty
of Ho Chi Minh City University of Pedagogy. When the Lawrence Sting Scholarship
was announced, I was very interested in this scholarship and immediately found
out information on this organization through its website. And then I am totally
impressed by charitable activities which the organization have done for our
community.
It came to
my knowledge that Lawrence S. Ting Memorial Fund was established on 2005. “Lawrence S. Ting Memorial Fund is a
social, non-profitable fund, which operates on the principle of
self-sufficiency with the sponsorship and voluntary contributions of local and
foreign individuals and organizations, offering support in health care,
education and contributing to improve public infrastructure facilities in needy
areas”
(1). The statistics given by the
organization is really impressed : up to now, more than 8.6 million US dollars
have been given to our community through its charitable activities: including nearly
4,000 scholarships awarded to excellent students from universities and high
schools with the total amount of more than 1.2 million dollars. In addition, 50,615
scholarships have been granted through many funds and associations in the
country with the total amount of 2 million dollars. Besides granting financial
support to students, the organization has been providing computers and
computers labs to schools through its “moving forward with IT” program. This is
very realistic and extremely helpful contribution to such a poor country where
children, especially in the rural areas, have no chance to access to
information technology which plays an important role in economic development.
The program is proven comprehensive and benefitable with 3 stages, firstly
providing PCs and computers labs with integrated computer equipment and
internet connectivity, and then secondly providing software training, laptops,
projectors in order to help students/teachers apply the information technology
in their daily learning activities, and finally promoting e-teaching. Up to
now, the program has been donating more than 2 million dollars to schools
across the nation.
Not only
focusing on education, the organization also pay attention to public healthcare.
It has “wheelchairs of love” program which provides more than 10,000 wheel
chairs to handicapped people around the country, and medical facilities (medical stations and medical equipment)
construction.
In its
continuing effort for a better future for our community, the organization has
been rewarded with many commendations by our government and more importantly it
has helped thousands of students, teachers and handicapped people all over the
country.
Finally, its simple slogan “give your hand to
those who need it” reflects exactly what the organization has been doing. I
believe this is one of the most efficient non-profit charitable organizations
in Vietnam.
