Perhaps no subject in modern society is as controversial as the matter of studying the past. Despite the fact that history has been considered as a tedious subject, it is commonly believed by some people that historical study is the best effective method in order to support teenagers in showing better behaviors in contemporary society. As far as I am concerned, I strongly hold a belief that historical study and preservation are important issues that we can neither turn a blind eye nor turn a deaf ear to them anymore.
It is first recognized that there are two main reasons why studying history is important in daily life. The first would be explained by the fact that understanding of the past allows us to understand our present. There is no doubt that the study of history helps people in broadening knowledge of the origin of human society. Through this, people could understand how the universe is the way it is today. Another reason should be taken into account is that looking back to the past enables people to find past mistakes as well as learn from them. A typical example of this case is that the World Wars are the largest waste of human life from conflicts in the history of globalization. As a result, learning from the past is the necessity of constructing a better progressive society.
To tackle this issue, countless measures have been applied, among which the key one is that the government should bear a responsibility to preserve national history. In particular, they should provide more support to preserve historical sites. Equally important, schools and colleges need to emphasize history and related subjects. Last but not least, an education program raising the young generation’s awareness of not only studying history but also preserving history would be a reliable resolution for this case.
The matter of historical study has been arousing people’s concern. It is clear that studying the past allows us to exercise our critical thinking. Thus, we had better find out approaches in order to preserve the history and hopefully things are changing in the future.
