Hometown (speaking)

1. Khi nói về vị trí (location) thường dùng "be located" hoặc "be situated".

2. Nói về ưu, nhược điểm nơi mình sinh sống:
a. Nói đơn giản, liệt kê ra từng cái (sử dụng số ít)
An/One advantage of [Gerund phrase] is + Noun phrase/ that S + V (Noun clause)
Nhảy sang ý khác, muốn không lặp ý, sử dụng:
Another advantage.... hoặc "Beside,..."
Ngoài việc sử dụng "advantage", có thể dùng "benefit".
Khi nói về tiêu cực (nhược điểm), sử dụng "disadvantage" hoặc "drawback".
b. Nói nhấn mạnh cái đặc biệt (giving emphasis)
The best/worst thing about...

3. Khi nói về điều thích nhất hoặc không thích ở nơi nào đó:
What I like/dislike/can't stand + best/most + about + something/doing something + is +....

Một số lưu ý trong dùng từ vựng:
- Nạn kẹt xe thường sử dụng "traffic congestion", không sử dụng "traffic jam".
- Giờ cao điểm = rush hour.
- breadwinner = trụ cột gia đình
- take care of household = chăm sóc cả nhà.
- extended family = big family: gia đình nhiều thế hệ
- obsession: nỗi ám ảnh. Eg: English is always my obsession.
- trustworthy = reliable = count on

For example:
 A: Where is your hometown?
B: I was born in Nha Trang, which is the coastal city of central Vietnam. I have lived here for 18 years since I was born. Then, I moved into Ho Chi Minh City.
A: Is there much to do in your hometown?
B: Well, there is certainly lots to do there as it is a fairly big city. If you like going out in the evening there are a lot of good restaurants and bars. If you prefer cultural activities there are pagodas and temples, such as Long Son Pagoda, Thap Ba Temple,... But if you like nature there are Ocean Institute, tourist areas,... In fact, my hometown is well known for its beaches and scuba diving and has developed into a popular destination for international tourists.
A: What are the people like in your hometown?
B: They are mostly quite friendly. The life in there is quiet. You will feel safely in outside and no traffic congestion, no pollution. Besides, they are generous and helpful. They are willing to help everyone, especially the tourist. Do you love my hometown?
A: Oh, yes, that would be nice! You said you was living in Ho Chi Minh City. What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in Ho Chi Minh city?
B: It depends. An advantages of living in Ho Chi Minh city is good facilities. As you know, there are a lot of buildings, entertainment centers, international hotels,... Another advantages of living in Ho Chi Minh city is well education. There are many schools, universities and research centers in there. The best thing about living in there is that more women are in work than ever before. There are a lot of things what I dislike in there. What I dislike about living in there is the traffic congestion, especially in the rush hour. I mostly go to my class late, I hate waking up early. What I can not stand about living in Ho Chi Minh city is pollution. Oh no, there are air pollution, water pollution,... It's awful! I sometimes get ill because of pollution in there. In my opinion, I think living in Nha Trang city is better than living in Ho Chi Minh city. Health is the most important in our life!
